Vogue Jumper Sew-Along w/ Mimi G

Hi Darlings! I can't say enough how much I love this jumper. It is comfy and flattering on most shapes so it makes it a win win for summer. The fabric is actually the same fabric on the vogue website and it works perfectly. I of course have listed some fabrics I think will work great along with the fabric link.

Did you catch this dress on MimiG Style? It's on fire! 

It's perfect for Spring or Summer. I love the way this fabric, called crystal tie dye, makes up. 

The yellow and bright pink add the perfect  pop of color. The 8% spandex gives it a great stretch.  The

  fabric is selling fast so if you want to make one get your pattern and fabric before they sell out.

New Foam Tuffet...

Happy hump day. Robin & I want to show you this new product we received. These foam tuffets are perfect next to a bed or chair or as a foot rest. There are so many ways you can go with it. From juvenile, to retro, to funky and so much in between. Really, your imagination is the only thing that will limit you. Have fun and please, if you make one, tag us so we can see it.



Supplies:

2 yards of fabric, pictured here ML247495

1/4  yard of solid fabric of your choice for piping

3 1/3 yards of cotton cording (enough to go around tuffet twice) or use pre made piping, trim, or fringe

1 piece of batting, size of top of tuffet (optional)

1 foam tuffet (18" diameter/15" tall)

1 quick pleater. I used the 2 inch pleater

Pattern:

Cut top piece 19" diameter circle. (to allow for seam allowance)



Cut 4" band circumference of the tuffet.



Cut 3 widths of fabric at 15" long each.

The piping was made with 1/4" cotton cording & a solid fabric.  (you could also use a pre-made piping or use a fringe)

Make sure there is enough to go around the tuffet twice.

Stitch piping to the circle top piece.



Attach 4" band to piped top piece.

Attach 2nd piece of piping to the bottom of the band. Set aside.

Now, sew the 3 large pieces together to make a loop. (In this case the 3 pieces equalled 3 times the circumference)

Get out your quick pleater & start pleating. I like to pin the pleats in place.

We decided to go with a box pleat, but a knife pleat would also work well.







Hem the bottom. I used the Sealah double sided tape to make is super quick & easy.

Iron the pleats down.

Attach pleated skirt to bottom of band.

Place the batting on top of the tuffet. This is optional, but it will give it a softer look.

Put your slip cover on your tuffet.

Now you have this perfect foot stool or side table that coordinates perfectly with your space.

There are so many fabrics that would work well with this project. Here are a few others we suggest...

ML247510 is one of my favorite fabrics. You can't go wrong with this beautiful embroidered indigo.



A Shaby Chic linen would be great as well.



I love this Moroccan Ikat print.  The colors are great. I can see this in a tweens room.



Also take a look at the pouf that Lisa Tilse made with the fabric she designed for Robert Kaufman. We should have this fabric in next week. It is really a bold pop of fun.

The tour started last week and it has been great watching each blogger do their own interpretation of the Alphabet collection. I love that it is unisex and still so fun and interesting.  It is just perfect for back to school. There are so many possibilities. By mixing and matching fabrics and textures you can create looks that go on for days and it looks like these bloggers did just that!

Our fabrics have been very popular with the Study Hall Jacket and the vest. Here are a few pictures.

This yellow wool really adds that wow factor. Great pop of color! Also the suiting for the vest is a cute play on mens apparel.

The Echino Bonnetbus is so cool! He looks ready to start learning!

This warm & cozy sherpa vest is perfect for Fall. It's almost like wearing your favorite blanket.

I love what Shwin & Shwin did with this orange boucle. The texture is great and that gold zipper just takes it over the edge into perfection.

This vest from our Ikat is lovely. Just as Elsie says, it is just the right amount of grown up, yet still young at the same time. I love the racer back detail as well.

And lastly, what girl doesn't want this jacket? This faux fur adds a look of sophistication that any pre-teen would love.

 I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the outfits. Every morning I go to work and look to see the newest creation. It's a nice surprise. Mimi G. in the house...

Over the last 6-9 months lowpricefabric.com has started working hand in hand with many of you bloggers out there. We have met so many great women who love to sew apparel and children's garments, craft, and knit. Now when we say "met", we're using the word loosely. In the world of blogging I feel like I know and have "met" so many of you, but in reality our meetings take place over e-mails, reading your blogs and/or phone calls. Most of us do not live in the same city and many of us do not live in the same state.

When Mimi, of MImiG Style, came into our life it was pretty amazing to find out that not only is she a blogger, a sewer, has an amazing following, and loves our store but to top it off she lives less than an hour from us. Needless to say we had to meet. A few weeks ago we invited Mimi to go behind the scenes and get a first hand look at some of our new fabrics that are in the warehouse.



These fabrics are being sorted for the retail store, the internet, and the Loft. Once we decide where they will live they get double & folded or put on rolls and sent to their new home. This process can take any where from a few days to a few weeks depending on the amount of fabric we're talking about. For anyone who has met Larry you know he loves fabric and the more the better. Sometimes we have thousands of yards getting checked in at a time.

Mimi was thrilled to get a peek at what would be hitting the sales floor. We spent a few hours walking all three floors of the warehouse.

Larry just kept bringing out new fabrics and Mimi, as you will see a bit further down,  just couldn't help herself.  Every time Larry pulled out a fabric, Mimi would Oooh and Ahhh and that was Larry's signal to cut a swatch and get one of our warehouse guys to pull the roll and take it for cutting.

These fabrics elicited an Oooh or an Ahhh and the scissors came right out. Mimi told us she mostly likes to sew knits, especially double knits, as seen below, but she also picked out this great geometric cotton print and a few textured suitings.

                                                 

Let me tell you we had fun! Between Larry's enthusiasm for his fabric and Mimi's enthusiasm for sewing our fabric, it was like two kids in a candy store. I loved hearing Mimi's thought process out loud. She would see a fabric and start talking about what she wanted to make with it. Let's just say she is going to be one busy camper!

Once we finished the third floor and had plenty of swatches in hand, we headed to the retail store. Orlando, one of our warehouse guys, had already pulled the fabrics from the first two floors and they were ready to be cut.



One of my favorite cutters, Eldrina, was ready and waiting. She saw the filled cart and was prepared for the long haul.  Here are the fabrics getting stacked up as she cuts...

                                  

Needless to say Mimi just couldn't resist. Once Eldrina was done cutting it took Mimi, her husband, and her oh so adorable son to carry out all the bags.



As always, I can't wait to see what Mimi makes with the fabrics she picked out. She thought she might start with that great hexagon black & white print above, but who knows what will inspire her when she gets home and unloads her bags. I'm sure no matter what she starts with we're all in for a treat. While Mimi is amazing at linking back to our site, I'm thinking about starting a Mimi section on our home page. Let me know what you think of that. Also, I'm happy to report that we had plenty of yardage of many of the fabrics that inspired Mimi . Some of you may remember last month when Mimi posted that incredible front slit maxi dress, we sold through over 300 yards of that fabric in 2 days! While we love selling that much fabric, it was hard not to please every customer out there. We felt terrible when we ran out of both prints and there were still so many of you trying to order it.
